Drivers dropping passengers off outside East Midlands Airport’s terminal will pay £8 for up to 10 minutes from Tuesday 29 September.
The Rapid Drop Off charge was previously £5 for up to 15 minutes. That means drivers will pay £3 more and have five minutes less at the new starting rate.
The airport says the increase reflects inflation and the cost of ongoing investment. It says the charge had remained at £5 for five years.
Rapid Drop Off is directly outside the terminal. It has no exit barriers, so drivers must pay online through the airport’s payment portal or by phone on 0345 222 1517 by midnight the day after their visit. Drivers can also set up an AutoPay account for future visits. The airport says a £100 parking charge may be issued if payment is missed, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.
There are other options for those who need more time. The airport offers up to one hour free in Long Stay 2 for dropping off or picking up passengers. Its published Short Stay 1 tariff is £6 for up to 30 minutes, while Blue Badge holders can use designated spaces there free for up to 30 minutes.
Drivers should check the signs and the airport’s pick-up and drop-off information before choosing where to stop.
