Lloyds Bank in Ilkeston to Close This November

Lloyds Bank has confirmed that its Ilkeston branch in Market Place will close in November 2026 as part of a nationwide programme of branch closures.

The announcement forms part of a wider move by Lloyds Banking Group, which plans to close 79 branches across the UK over the next year, including 31 Lloyds Bank branches and 48 Halifax branches.

The Ilkeston branch is one of dozens affected as banks continue to reduce their high street presence in response to increasing use of online and mobile banking services.

Lloyds Banking Group says customers will still be able to access services through its digital banking platforms, the Post Office network, community bankers and other Lloyds Banking Group branches.

The closure will mark the end of another long-standing banking presence in Ilkeston town centre and is likely to concern many residents who continue to rely on face-to-face banking services.

Older customers and those less comfortable with online banking are expected to be among those most affected.

The Civil Service Pensioners’ Alliance has criticised the continued loss of bank branches across the country, arguing that access to banking and cash should be treated as an essential service rather than an optional extra.

The latest announcement comes amid an ongoing decline in high street banking, with hundreds of branches having closed across the UK over the past decade. Major banks including Santander, NatWest and Barclays have all announced further closures during 2026.

Once the Lloyds branch closes, NatWest and Nationwide will be the only remaining banks with branches in Ilkeston town centre.

Lloyds Banking Group said the decision reflects changing customer habits, with more people choosing to manage their finances through mobile apps and online services.

The Ilkeston branch is currently scheduled to close on 5 November 2026.
