A man who entered an Ilkeston convenience store carrying a knife and took a cash drawer from behind the counter has been jailed for 30 months.
William Zygmuntowski was sentenced at Derby Crown Court after pleading guilty to burglary and possession of a knife in a public place.
The offences relate to an incident at the One Stop store on Charlotte Street, Ilkeston, on 1 May.
The court heard that Zygmuntowski entered the store with his face covered and carrying a knife before making his way behind the counter.
CCTV footage shown to the court reportedly showed him pushing a shop worker aside and using the knife to separate the cash drawer from the till before leaving the premises with it.
The court was told that customers were inside the store at the time of the incident.
In a victim impact statement, the worker said she feared she might be stabbed after seeing the knife. She was unable to return to work for two days following the incident.
The prosecution told the court that Zygmuntowski had been released from prison just three days before the offence after serving a sentence for theft offences.
At Derby Crown Court, he was sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment for burglary.
He was also sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for possessing a knife in a public place. That sentence will run at the same time as the burglary sentence, meaning the overall prison sentence remains 30 months.
The court also imposed a victim surcharge of £228.
