The Ilkeston Probus Club is inviting retired and near-retired men in the area to its next monthly meeting, taking place on Thursday 5 February.
The meeting will be held at Erewash Valley Golf Club, where members meet at 12 noon for lunch at 12:30pm, followed by a guest speaker. Meetings usually conclude between 2:30pm and 3:00pm.
February’s speaker will be Janet Moore, a former local magistrate, who will be giving a talk titled “Crime in Ilkeston in the 60s” – a look back at how crime, policing and the town itself have changed over the decades.
The club is part of the wider Probus movement, which brings together retired and semi-retired people to enjoy friendship, social interaction and interesting talks. Each Probus club operates independently, with its own format and activities.
Ilkeston Probus Club, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, meets monthly on the first Thursday and focuses on good fellowship, a shared lunch and engaging speakers. Membership costs £20 per month, which includes a two-course lunch and the speaker. The club is men-only, with partners invited to two meetings each year.
