Denby Pottery has responded directly to a local social media post after a wave of support from residents.
The Derbyshire-based manufacturer, which has been producing stoneware for more than 200 years, is currently encouraging people to support the business as part of its #SaveDenby campaign.
A post from Ilson Gnome and “Mrs G” – sharing a personal story about growing up with Denby – has gained strong engagement online, with hundreds of reactions and shares.
In the post, Mrs G recalled how her nan bought her a Denby set as a child “for your bottom drawer”, adding that she still uses it today.
The post also highlighted the people behind the pottery, pointing to the skill, experience and pride involved in producing each piece, and the importance of supporting local jobs.
Responding publicly, Denby Pottery Village said the story reflected exactly what the brand stands for.
They wrote:
“Stories like yours are at the heart of everything we do. Knowing that a piece chosen all those years ago is still part of your home today, used and enjoyed every day, is incredibly special to hear.”They added:
“You’ve captured it perfectly – it’s not just about the pottery itself, but the people, the skill and craftsmanship behind every piece, and the part it goes on to play in people’s lives.”
The company also thanked Mrs G for visiting and sharing her experience, describing it as “truly appreciated”.
The response has further highlighted the strong connection many local people have with Denby, with others sharing similar stories of products passed down through generations.
The situation comes as Denby’s parent company has now filed a second notice of intention to appoint administrators, extending the period of legal protection while it explores options to secure investment and restructure the business.
An initial notice was filed earlier this month as a precautionary measure, giving the company short-term protection from creditor action while it seeks a long-term solution.
The latest filing effectively buys more time for those efforts to continue, with the search for a potential investment partner ongoing.
It does not necessarily mean the company will enter administration, and Denby continues to trade while options for its future are explored.
Like many manufacturers, the company is facing rising costs and challenging trading conditions, including higher energy prices and reduced consumer spending.
Denby has said it remains focused on supporting employees, customers, suppliers and retail partners while working to secure the best possible outcome for the business.
Residents are now being encouraged to support the #SaveDenby campaign in whatever way they can. For further information on ways you can help, visit their website here.
