Ilkeston businesswoman Sarah Mawer, of Priority Stairlifts, has been named Community Hero at the 2026 Checkatrade Regional Awards for the Midlands and Wales.
Sarah received the award at a ceremony held at Wolverhampton Wanderers Stadium on Thursday 8 October, recognising her contribution to the community and her commitment to going above and beyond in her work.
The awards celebrate outstanding tradespeople from across the region, with winners chosen following more than 2,500 nominations nationwide.
The annual Checkatrade Awards recognise tradespeople for their craftsmanship, professionalism and reliability, as well as the difference they make to customers and communities.
Jambu Palaniappan, CEO of Checkatrade, said: “Great trades earn their place on Checkatrade and keep earning it. But members like Sarah Mawer go a step beyond this already high bar.
“The Checkatrade Awards are all about celebrating the pride and effort our outstanding members put into their work, and shining a light on their achievements. We’re very proud of them all.”
The Community Hero category was sponsored by Band of Builders.
The regional awards will be followed by a national final in central London on 19 November, bringing together category winners from across the UK.
Sarah’s achievement puts both Priority Stairlifts and Ilkeston in the spotlight, recognising the contribution a local business makes beyond its day-to-day work.
