Work is due to begin on a major £770,000 renovation of The Punchbowl in West Hallam, which has been closed for around three years.
The historic pub, which dates back to 1754, is set to undergo an extensive transformation before reopening later this year.
Builders are expected to start work on 1 September, with the revamped pub scheduled to welcome customers again by late November. The reopening is expected to create approximately 30 new jobs.
Plans include refurbishing the existing bar and constructing a new extension to house a spacious dining area.
The outside of the building will also be fully renovated, with new lighting, signs and planting planned at the front of the property.
A new porch and canopied terrace will be created at the side of the pub for customers using the dining area.
The rear garden is also set to receive a makeover, including new outdoor furniture, festoon lighting and a covered area designed to be used throughout the year.
The renovation is being carried out by Heineken-owned Star Pubs in partnership with the pub’s new licensee.
The Punchbowl has stood in the centre of West Hallam for more than 270 years and was once a popular meeting place within the village.
Its planned reopening will bring the prominent building back into use following several years behind boards.
Work is expected to take approximately three months, subject to the renovation progressing as planned.
