A man who repeatedly targeted the same home in Ilkeston has been jailed following a series of attempted burglaries.
Mitchell Calladine, 23, formerly of Lissett Avenue, Ilkeston, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on 8 December 2025, after being convicted of two counts of attempted burglary.
The offences centred on a property on Drummond Road, where residents became increasingly concerned after hearing loud banging and noticing suspicious activity.
On one occasion, the homeowner confronted the intruder and gave chase, managing to make a citizen’s arrest in a nearby park before police arrived.
Police said the victim had previously spotted Calladine on his property on earlier occasions and had chased him from the garden. Further incidents were reported in the days leading up to the arrest, including a smashed window and repeated attempts to gain entry.
Detective Sergeant Louise Munday, from Derbyshire Police’s Neighbourhood Acquisitive Crime Team, said burglary can have a lasting impact on victims and praised the actions of those involved in bringing the offender to justice. She added that officers remain committed to tackling burglary and acquisitive crime across the area.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to police, as early action and information from the public can play a key role in preventing further offences.
