Man charged after alleged armed robbery at Ilkeston shop

A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery at a convenience store in Ilkeston – as police continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Derbyshire Police say officers were called to the One Stop shop on Charlotte Street at around 6.45pm on Friday 1 May after reports that a man had threatened staff before taking a till and fleeing the scene.

Following enquiries, police have now confirmed that William Zygmuntowski, 40, of no fixed abode, has been charged with robbery and possession of a knife in public.

He appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Monday 4 May, where he was remanded into custody.

As part of the investigation, officers are still asking anyone who may have seen the incident – or the moments afterwards – to get in touch.

Police previously said CCTV showed several people walking past a man running from the area, with particular interest in three men who reportedly spoke to officers during searches nearby after seeing a suspected offender on a footpath close to Cotmanhay Road.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Derbyshire Police quoting reference 26*251622.
