Monday 29 June 2026: A man has been remanded in custody after appearing before magistrates charged in connection with a stabbing in Cotmanhay which left another man fighting for his life.
Luke Hurdowar, of no fixed address, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with Section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife.
The charges relate to an incident on Cotmanhay Road at around 12pm on Friday, 27 June, when emergency services were called to reports of a serious assault.
A man was found with serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Derbyshire Police have confirmed the victim remains in a critical condition.
Appearing from custody, Hurdowar was not asked to enter pleas to either charge.
District Judge Jonathan Taaffe remanded him in custody before sending the case to Derby Crown Court, where he is due to appear on 27 July to enter his pleas.
A 26-year-old woman who was also arrested following the incident has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Police continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage from the Cotmanhay Road area around the time of the alleged attack, to come forward.

Man charged after Cotmanhay stabbing as victim remains in critical condition
SATURDAY 27 June 2026: A man has been charged following a stabbing in Cotmanhay that left another man with life-threatening injuries.
Derbyshire Police have confirmed that Luke Hurdowar, 29, of no fixed address, has been charged with Section 18 wounding and possession of an offensive weapon following the incident on Cotmanhay Road on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 12pm after reports of an assault.
When officers arrived, they found a man with serious injuries. He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Hurdowar has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before magistrates on Monday (29 June).
A 26-year-old woman who was also arrested as part of the investigation has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
A police cordon remained in place for several hours on Friday while officers carried out forensic examinations and investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident. The closure also caused disruption to traffic and local bus services.
Detectives continue to investigate what happened and are still appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around the time of the assault, to come forward.
