A former Ilkeston rugby player is heading to the international stage after being named in the Wales Women’s squad for the 2026 Six Nations.
Kendall Waudby, who began her journey at Ilkeston RUFC, has been selected as part of a 38-player squad ahead of the tournament, which gets underway in April.
The forward – who can play both hooker and back row – is among a group of uncapped players given an opportunity at international level as Wales look to build for the future.
Waudby currently plays for Loughborough Lightning, where she has impressed in Premiership Women’s Rugby and worked her way through the club’s development pathway.
Her rise has been built on consistent performances at club level, with Wales head coach Sean Lynn selecting players based on form and regular game time.
For Ilkeston RUFC, it’s a moment of huge pride.
Waudby first picked up a rugby ball at The Stute as part of the club’s Minis setup – and her journey from those local pitches to the international stage is already being held up as an example to the next generation.
The Six Nations will be shown live across the UK, with matches broadcast on the BBC.
Her selection is not just a personal milestone – it’s a reminder that talent developed in Ilkeston can go all the way to the very top of the game.
