A man has sadly died following a serious road traffic collision in Ilkeston.

The collision happened shortly before 11am on Thursday, December 11, on Chalons Way, near the roundabout close to Tesco and Aldi.

Police have confirmed that a 78-year-old man, who was riding a mobility scooter at the time, was involved in a collision with a van. He sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where he sadly died overnight. His family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

Emergency services attended the scene and Chalons Way was closed for several hours while the incident was dealt with, causing significant disruption in the area. Drivers were urged to find alternative routes and bus services were affected during the closure.
