Plans Submitted for Four Flats Above Historic Bath Street Building in Ilkeston

Plans have been submitted to convert the upper floors of a prominent building in Ilkeston town centre into four residential flats.

The application relates to 2 Bath Street, a Victorian three-storey building on the corner of Bath Street and East Street, within the Ilkeston Conservation Area.

The proposal would see the first and second floors converted to provide four self-contained apartments, comprising three one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom flat. The ground floor would remain in use as a pub and bar.

According to planning documents submitted to Erewash Borough Council, the upper floors are currently used as offices. The applicant says the development would bring underused space back into productive use while helping to increase the supply of housing within the town centre.

No significant external alterations are proposed as part of the scheme, with the application stating that the character and appearance of the building would be preserved. The only notable external change would be the creation of a separate access route to the flats from part of the existing yard area.

The planning statement notes that the building occupies a highly sustainable location, with shops, services, public transport and community facilities all within walking distance.

The building sits within the Ilkeston Conservation Area and is identified as a positive building within the conservation area appraisal.

The application will now be considered by Erewash Borough Council.
