Please support the businesses that make it possible

There’s another side to the Trick or Treat Trail that is worth recognising.

For families, it’s a free afternoon of Halloween fun. But for many of the businesses taking part, there is a real cost involved. When hundreds of youngsters come through the town, providing enough sweets and treats can soon add up. These are local businesses choosing to put their own money into something that brings families into Ilkeston and creates a bit of fun for the town.

So perhaps we can return that support – not just on Halloween, but throughout the year.

When you’re shopping, eating out, booking an appointment or looking for a local service, remember the businesses that get behind events like this. Supporting them when we can helps ensure we continue to have businesses willing and able to support our community in return.

And if you’d like to make a more direct contribution to the Trick or Treat Trail, you could always contact one of the participating businesses beforehand and offer to drop off a tub or bag of individually wrapped sweets for them to hand out.

Nobody is expected to contribute, and the trail remains about giving youngsters a fun Halloween. But whether it’s buying local during the year or donating a few sweets, we can all play a small part in supporting the businesses that help make events like this possible.

Ilkeston News will keep this page updated as new locations are confirmed, so bookmark it and check back before Friday 30 October for the latest Trick or Treat Trail list.
