A well-known Ilkeston garage is marking a major milestone this month – celebrating 20 years in business.
HiQ Tyres & Autocare Ilkeston first opened its doors in 2006 and is still run today by owner Debra Grundy and her family.
Over the past two decades, the Heanor Road site has built up a loyal customer base, with many drivers returning year after year.
To mark the anniversary, the business is offering £20 off a full service or 20% off an MOT until the end of May.
Debra originally made the move into the motor trade after working as a bank manager, taking on the Ilkeston garage from one of her own customers.
“Twenty years ago, I was working in banking when the opportunity came up to take over the site,” she said. “That’s how it all started.”
The business has since grown into a family operation. Debra’s son, James Robinson, later helped expand the brand by opening a second HiQ centre in Mansfield.
While the Ilkeston site focuses on everyday drivers, the Mansfield branch also caters for larger vehicles and performance cars.
But Debra says it’s the local community that has always been at the heart of the business.
“We’ve built relationships with customers that go back years,” she said. “Some have been with us since the beginning – we’ve looked after their cars for most of that journey.”
Beyond the workshop, the team has also supported local causes, including providing parcels for homeless charities and working with community groups.
“We’re proud to be part of the Ilkeston community,” Debra added.
HiQ operates as a national network backed by tyre manufacturer Goodyear, but each centre is independently run.
The Ilkeston branch continues to invest in new technology, including training and equipment for electric vehicle servicing.
