A decision on plans to extend licensing hours at The General Havelock in Ilkeston will be made at a public hearing next week, after concerns were raised by local residents.
Erewash Borough Council has confirmed the application will go before its Licensing and Public Protection Panel on Thursday 2 April 2026 at 10:00am, at the Council Chamber, Long Eaton Town Hall.
The application, submitted in February, seeks to allow live and recorded music at the Stanton Road pub into the late evening – including beyond 11pm, which requires formal licensing approval.
Objections trigger hearing
Council documents show four representations were received from residents before the deadline, raising concerns about:
- Noise late at night
- Anti-social behaviour
- Public nuisance and disruption to nearby homes
Under licensing rules, objections mean the application cannot be approved automatically and must instead be decided by councillors at a formal hearing.
What councillors will consider
At the hearing, the panel will assess whether the proposed changes meet the four key licensing objectives:
- Prevention of crime and disorder
- Public safety
- Prevention of public nuisance
- Protection of children from harm
They will also consider both the applicant’s case and the concerns raised by residents.
The panel has the power to:
- Approve the application
- Refuse it
- Or approve it with additional conditions or reduced hours
No objections from authorities
Responsible authorities – including environmental health and fire services – have not objected to the plans.
Decision to follow hearing
A final decision will be made after the hearing and published by the council.
