Ilkeston’s much-loved Scala Cinema, Derbyshire’s oldest working picture house, is entering a brand-new chapter this week.
The 112-year-old venue has a proud history of entertaining the town and, under its new ownership, is getting a well-earned refresh. A new screen has already been fitted, with more improvements promised in the weeks ahead.
New owner Asif Sahil of Premiere Property Ltd has long had his eye on the Scala, and says he is keen to see it thrive as both a cinema and a community space. Regional manager Sarah Matthews added that the team want to hear from local people about what films, events and features they’d love to see return to the big screen.
“The Scala is part of Ilkeston’s story. We want it to feel like a place for everyone, where history and community meet modern cinema.”
With its unique blend of heritage and modernisation, the Scala is inviting Ilkeston folk to be part of shaping its future.
The message is simple: if you want the big screen to keep shining in our town, use it, support it – and spread the word.
A brand-new website has also gone live at www.scalailkeston.co.uk, making it easier than ever to check showtimes and book tickets online.
