Villages across Erewash are set to benefit from a £360,000 funding boost aimed at improving local facilities and community spaces.
Erewash Borough Council is preparing to launch a new Village Investment Fund, which will provide financial support to parish councils over the next two years.
The funding will come from the council’s Erewash Investment Fund and will be split into two parts – with money guaranteed for each parish, alongside a second pot for larger projects.
How the funding will work
A total of £180,000 will be allocated directly to parish councils, with each area receiving a set amount based on population size.
Under the proposed model:
- Smaller parishes will receive around £7,500
- Medium-sized parishes will receive around £15,000
- Larger parishes will receive up to £22,500
The funding is intended to support projects that create lasting improvements in local communities, particularly through capital investment.
A further £180,000 will be available through a competitive bidding process, allowing parish councils to apply for additional funding for larger “special projects”
What the money can be used for
The council says the fund is designed to support projects that improve quality of life and strengthen local communities.
This could include:
- Improving public spaces
- Upgrading community facilities
- Supporting local initiatives that tackle isolation or promote wellbeing
- Creating or enhancing local amenities
Projects must primarily benefit residents within each parish and demonstrate a clear local need.
When will it be available?
The scheme is expected to run from April 2026 to March 2028, with parish councils required to submit proposals outlining how they intend to use their allocation
Applications for the additional “special projects” funding will open during a dedicated window, with bids assessed on their impact and alignment with the council’s priorities.
Focus on long-term impact
The council says the aim of the Village Investment Fund is to support projects that deliver lasting benefits, rather than short-term spending.
Parish councils will also be expected to cover any ongoing maintenance costs linked to projects funded through the scheme.
💬 While this funding is focused on parish areas rather than central Ilkeston, nearby villages such as West Hallam, Dale Abbey and Little Eaton could all benefit.
