Six defendants from Ilkeston and surrounding towns have received custodial sentences for offences ranging from shop theft and criminal damage to intentional strangulation and drug supply.
Chelsie Brett, 20, of Dovedale Circle, Ilkeston, pleaded guilty to sending a communication threatening death or serious harm, harassment in breach of a restraining order, and two counts of criminal damage to cells belonging to Derbyshire Constabulary. The offences were committed while she was on recall from prison. She was sentenced to 16 weeks in a young offender institution and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
Challon Stewart, 43, of Ryecroft Street, Stapleford, pleaded guilty to possessing garden shears without good reason on the bridge over Chalons Way in Ilkeston, using homophobic threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress to a police officer, and being drunk and disorderly in a public place. The offences were committed while he was on licence from prison. He was jailed for 12 months and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
Jayden Anderson, 28, of Wilson Road, Eastwood, pleaded guilty to stealing a bank card, assault by beating, stalking, two offences involving threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards police officers, one involving homophobic abuse, and criminal damage to a door at a private address in Ilkeston. He was jailed for 16 weeks and given a two-year restraining order prohibiting contact with a named person or visits to a specified address. He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation.
Thomas Gaskin, 40, of Alfreton Road, Codnor, pleaded guilty to six shop thefts. These included stealing meat worth £105 from Aldi in Ilkeston, meat worth £181.55 from Aldi in Alfreton, and coffee worth £50.40 and meat worth £78.38 from Tesco Express in Codnor. He was jailed for 12 weeks and ordered to pay £415.33 compensation.
Barrington Azille, 43, of Loscoe Grange, Loscoe, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and intentional strangulation. He was jailed for 27 months and ordered to pay a £228 victim services surcharge.
Millen O’Donnell, 22, of Grange Gardens, Loscoe, pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply crack cocaine and conspiring to supply heroin. He was jailed for 45 months. Cash totalling £2,940.31 was forfeited and donated to Foundation Derbyshire, and he was ordered to pay a £228 victim services surcharge.
