A trading card shop owned by an Ilkeston man has been targeted in a burglary in Beeston, with more than £10,000 worth of stock stolen.
The break-in happened during the early hours of Thursday, 1 January, at Jake’s Breaks, a specialist trading card shop on High Road.
Images from the scene show significant damage to the front of the premises, with smashed glass and items scattered outside the shop following the raid. CCTV footage from inside the shop shows the offenders forcing entry and quickly removing high-value items before leaving the area.
The shop specialises in collectible trading cards, including Pokémon cards, which can be worth hundreds or even thousands of pounds depending on rarity and condition. Businesses holding this type of stock are increasingly being targeted due to the high resale value and demand within the collector market.
Although the shop is based in Beeston, it is owned by Ilkeston resident Chris Wilmot, giving the incident a direct local connection.
Nottinghamshire Police are investigating the burglary and have appealed for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area around the time of the break-in to come forward. Officers are also examining CCTV footage as part of their enquiries.
The incident has sparked concern among small business owners and collectors, with many highlighting the vulnerability of independent retailers dealing in high-value goods, particularly overnight.
