People visiting Ilkeston Urgent Treatment Centre will need an appointment during the evening under new access arrangements starting on Monday 24 August 2026.
The Urgent Treatment Centre at Ilkeston Community Hospital will remain open from 8am until 8pm, seven days a week. However, patients will only be able to walk in without an appointment between 8am and 5pm.
From 5pm until 8pm, the centre will be accessible by appointment only through NHS 111.
New opening and access arrangements
From Monday 24 August:
- 8am–5pm: Walk-in patients accepted without an appointment
- 5pm–8pm: Appointment only, arranged through NHS 111
Anyone requiring urgent treatment after 5pm should contact NHS 111 by calling 111 or visiting 111.nhs.uk.
Patients will be assessed and, where appropriate, given an appointment at the Urgent Treatment Centre or directed to another service better suited to their needs.
Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust said the changes were being introduced to help manage increasing demand and ensure patients are assessed and directed to the most appropriate service.
Although people can continue to attend without an appointment during walk-in hours, the NHS recommends contacting 111 first where possible.
Similar evening access arrangements are also being introduced at urgent treatment centres in Ripley and Whitworth. At Buxton, walk-in access will end at 4pm, with appointments required between 4pm and 8pm.
People with minor illnesses or injuries may also be able to receive advice and treatment from a local pharmacy without an appointment.
Anyone experiencing a life-threatening emergency should always call 999 or go to A&E.
