Residents across Ilkeston and the wider borough are being reminded to check their bin days over the Christmas and New Year period, as several collections will take place earlier than usual.
Erewash Borough Council has confirmed there will be no waste or recycling collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, but alternative arrangements are in place.
What’s changing?
Instead of missing collections altogether, affected bin days will be brought forward:
- Christmas Day (Thursday 25 December)
➜ collected on Monday 22 December 2025 - Boxing Day (Friday 26 December)
➜ collected on Tuesday 23 December 2025 - New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January)
➜ collected on Monday 29 December 2025
All other collection days during the festive period will go ahead as normal.
Important reminder for households
Residents are advised to:
- Put bins out by 7am on their revised collection day
- Leave bins out until collected, as collection times may vary
The council is urging households to double-check dates to avoid missed collections during what is traditionally one of the busiest times of year for waste services.
