GRAVITY The Infamous Boxing Day Hill Climb returns to Ilkeston this year

One of Ilkeston’s most popular Boxing Day traditions will return later this year, as Ilkeston Cycle Club hosts GRAVITY The Infamous Boxing Day Hill Climb on Friday 26 December 2025.

The annual event challenges cyclists to take on a tough uphill route through the town, attracting a mix of experienced riders, first-timers and spectators who line the course to cheer competitors on. Known for its friendly atmosphere and festive spirit, the hill climb has become a firm fixture in Ilkeston’s Christmas calendar.

Riders will set off individually at timed intervals, racing against the clock rather than each other, making the event accessible to cyclists of all abilities. Most non-motor-assisted bikes are welcome, and organisers encourage anyone who fancies a challenge to get involved.

Sign-on opens from 9am, with racing getting underway from around 10am and continuing into the early afternoon. Presentations and prizes will follow once all riders have completed the course.

Organisers have confirmed that all proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to The Ben Parker Trust Fund, a charity that provides holidays for children battling cancer.

Entry costs

£6 for adults

£4 for under-16s

Places to race are limited, and entries close at midnight on Monday 22 December 2025, so riders are encouraged to book in advance.

Spectators are also welcome on the day, with plenty of opportunities to watch the action and support riders along the route, making it a great Boxing Day outing for the local community.
