Ilkeston is set to come alive with Halloween magic as the town’s much-loved Trick-or-Treat Trail returns today, Friday 31 October – and this year, it’s claimed to be the largest trick-or-treat event in the entire country!
From 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, families are invited to don their costumes, grab a goody bag, and explore Ilkeston town centre, where more than 75 local shops and businesses will be handing out sweets, smiles, and spooky surprises. Expect ghoulish decorations, creative costumes, and plenty of community spirit.
Organised by Joe Cahill of Ilkeston’s Incredible Shops, the event has become one of the town’s favourite family traditions since launching in 2019 – bringing people together and showcasing Ilkeston’s brilliant independents.
This year, locals are encouraged to Shop Local and help keep the fun flowing by donating individually wrapped sweets to participating shops. Every little bit helps keep the magic alive for Ilkeston’s young trick-or-treaters.
👻 Extra Spooky Stops
📸 Bespoke Funeral Care – Grab a selfie with the Halloween Stilt Walkers and maybe even the Ghostbusters car!
📚 Ilkeston Library – Hosting a ‘Craft and Treat’ session from 2:30 – 4:30 pm, before joining in with the largest trick or treat event
🏛 Erewash Museum – Open from 11 am – 4 pm with its own family-friendly trick-or-treat experience: knock on five mysterious doors and see who – or what – might answer!
Together, the trail and museum adventures make for a full day of Halloween fun, celebrating community spirit, creativity, and Ilkeston’s independent heart.
