Ilkeston’s own Christmas billboard has been unveiled this morning on Nottingham Road and it is already drawing plenty of attention.
The festive design was created by Aquarius Home Improvements and features Ilson Gnome and Mrs G surrounded by wrapped presents from real Ilkeston independent shops. Each gift on the billboard represents a business taking part in this year’s Christmas campaign.
Ilson Gnome shared the reveal online shortly after installation and the post quickly generated excitement across the town. Mrs G appears to have claimed most of the spotlight, which surprised nobody.
The billboard also marks the launch of a brand new Aquarius Christmas Duck Hunt with vouchers worth up to £250 available to win.
Twenty Ducks Have Escaped Into Ilkeston
Aquarius explained that a box of their branded ducks was dropped at HQ and twenty ducks managed to escape. They have now been spotted in twenty different independent businesses across the town.
Some ducks have been seen browsing shelves, others admiring window displays and a few appear to have taken an interest in local food.
Aquarius is calling on the public to help track them down.
How to Take Part
To join the duck hunt:
- Visit the independent shops involved
- Locate the numbered Aquarius ducks hidden inside
- Match each number to the correct business
- Submit all twenty answers on the Aquarius website
- Everyone with the correct matches will be entered into a draw for vouchers worth up to £250
Participation is free and the trail is designed to get families exploring Ilkeston and supporting local shops during the busy Christmas period.
Clues Hidden on the Billboard
The billboard does more than celebrate the town. It also includes clues for the competition. Each wrapped present in the artwork hints at one of the businesses hosting a duck.
For anyone unable to visit the Nottingham Road billboard, a digital version including the clues is available on the Aquarius website.
Celebrating Ilkeston’s Independent Businesses
This year’s campaign highlights a wide range of local independents including bakeries, florists, model shops, cafes, salons, gift shops and pubs.
Aquarius says the trail is intended to showcase the hard work of local shop owners and bring something fun to the community in the run up to Christmas.
Full rules, entry information and terms and conditions are available on the Aquarius competition page.
