Ilkeston kicked off the festive season in style tonight as hundreds of people filled the town centre for the annual Christmas lights switch-on.
Families gathered on the Market Place and around the Flamstead Centre to watch the town light up, with live music, festive stalls and plenty of local businesses staying open late to join the celebrations.
Ilkeston Brass Band Set the Tone
The Ilkeston Brass Band opened the evening with a rousing 30-minute set outside the Town Hall, drawing a big crowd and setting the perfect festive atmosphere.
Their performance was followed by entertainment from Ledger Dance Studio and Grand Central Chorus, keeping the energy high as people waited for the big countdown.
Inside the Flamstead Centre, Everyone Eats ran a busy craft market, children’s activities and festive stalls, which proved to be one of the main attractions of the night. Footfall remained strong throughout, with local makers and volunteers helping to create a lively community feel.
Lights On – And the Town Transformed
As the countdown reached zero, the lights burst into life across the town centre, including the large Christmas tree on the Market Place and displays running down Bath Street.
A Real Community Night
From late-night shopping to festive family activities, the switch-on brought together families, local groups, volunteers and businesses — giving Ilkeston a much-needed seasonal boost.
The Christmas lights will shine throughout December, with more festive events, markets and community activities planned in the run-up to Christmas Day.
